Ten Things You Need To Learn About Upvc Replacement Door Handles

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes, the handles on your doors will get worn out and require replacement. When doing this it is important that the new handles match the exact dimensions of the previous handle.

The top screw's location, the lever and the keyhole dimensions are the three measurements you have to verify. Use the size guide to help you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever door handle is a modern handle that can be put in on replacement or new doors. This type of handle is available in many styles and finishes. A number of manufacturers make this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles made of uPVC/Composite are made of sturdy materials and are suitable for multi point lock doors which require a robust design. The handles are inline and operate off the same spindle and screw fixings, so they can be easily incorporated into doors made of uPVC/Composite, either new or old.

The handle can be adjusted and angled to accommodate any user. The handle has been tested to 200 000 cycles.  upvc door handles  ensures that the quality of finish and performance is maintained over time. The sprung lever can also be cut to fit the widest range of locks. This is particularly beneficial for narrower door frames in which the cylinder is further back. A lever that is shorter can be used on doors that have a latch that can be opened by the thumb located on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is distinct from the lever handles that are used on the majority of doors. The handle can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are commonly utilized on UPVC doors with double glazing. They are available in a variety of finishes and variations.

The handles have been tested to a minimum of 200k cycles and are available in several finishes, including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for its intended use.

All of the UPVC lever pad designs are supplied with the spindle and screws that allow them to be fitted on a new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm allow for a larger size of handle which is often a benefit when replacing a faulty or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are sprung, solving the problem of handles that slide out of their horizontal position when they are not in use.

It is essential to match up the dimensions of the PZ for both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when selecting a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement may also be called 'handle centre or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the correct handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size, you'll have to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you need for your doors. They are usually of a round or square shape, with an internal lever as well as an external push pad.

Most of the UPVC lever pads we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position after not being used, instead of hanging out and possibly securing in the frame. This prevents drafts and cold air from getting into a house. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed models that allow them to be installed on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are usually found on uPVC doors, but can also be used on other types of door. They operate with a key to unlock a cylinder case which is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock body, allow them to rotate an revolving cam, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins, with external and internal doors usually having different levels of security.

Choosing the right cylinder is crucial; it is contingent on the way your doors and handle are utilized. Doors that are external, for instance, should be fitted with cylinders that are more secure while doors inside can be secured with the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that can improve security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.

A euro cylinder needs to be measured accurately to ensure it is the right size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn should there be one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, so it is important to make sure it's not too long.

The design of the latest cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This helps stop the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

There are also cylinders constructed to withstand snapping. This is a growing kind of attack on cylinders, which is where the break line of the lock is attacked using a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to open. This is much quicker and easier to achieve than opening the door with multipoint locks and leaves little evidence of a burglary, which can impede an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is situated inside the base plate of the door handle. It provides a sprung solution to help return the multipoint lock handles to their normal position after using. The handles had no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was disengaged. This simple feature is one of the best methods to correct this, and is an excellent way to stop your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in either closed or open position, as they are not always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specially designed to be used with multipoint locks sprung They will not work with unsprung multipoint handles and you must have a hole specifically cut in your backplate in order for them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are fitted with an elongated square that allows for an 8mm spindle to be used and they are supplied individually.

These spring cassettes offer a great value solution to the issue of sagging door handles. They are simple to install and will prolong the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
